Unit Description: The Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit is a 31 bed unit located on 4North at TMH. Of these, 6 beds are dedicated as NIMCU. Our NIMCU offers full cardiac monitoring, videography and hemodynamic monitoring. The staff on these unit provides care for those patients with closed head injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, epilepsy, meningitis, fractures, back surgeries, and major trauma. From admission to discharge, the RN interactively coordinates the patient's plan of care with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
The Vogter-Neuro Intensive Care Unit is a ten bed trauma unit. This unit specializes in the care of brain and spinal cord trauma patients as well as critical medical or surgical neurological patients. Patients are usually admitted through the Bixler Emergency Center or from other facilities in the surrounding area. TMH is the only local hospital designated as a Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Acute Care Facility by the State of Florida Department of Health.
The units received the AACN Circle of Excellence Team Award for 2006. TMH is the first hospital in Big Bend Area to be certified as a Primary Stroke Center by JCAHO. The units have upheld the state of Florida certification for Brain and Spinal Cord Injury. These units are also dedicated Neuro/Trauma. Job Summary: The Registered Clinical Nurse (RN) is fundamental in achieving recognized world-class health care. Assumes direct and indirect responsibility for the patient's care environment. The primary responsibility is providing care through collaboration with health care team members and the autonomous application of the nursing process. Also provides leadership, mentoring and role modeling for other members of the health care team.
