Unit Description: The Cardio Vascular-Medical Surgical ICU is a twenty-bed unit that focuses on cardiovascular, thoracic and vascular surgery as well as caring for adult patients with critical medical and surgical problems. Typical nurse patient ratio of 1:2. The unit has long term staff and excellent rapport with physicians as well as feelings of teamwork and peer support. There is a unit based orientation program and opportunities to participate in a shared governance model of decision making. The unit's goal is to provide concentrated and highly skilled care to critically ill patients who have, or are high risk of developing, life threatening conditions requiring constant observation and intervention
Job Summary: The Registered Clinical Nurse (RN) is fundamental in achieving recognized world-class health care. Assumes direct and indirect responsibility for the patient's care environment. The primary responsibility is providing care through collaboration with health care team members and the autonomous application of the nursing process. Also provides leadership, mentoring and role modeling for other members of the health care team.
