Job Summary: Reporting directly to an Emergency Room Physician and under the physician's direct oversight and control, although not directly assisting in the delivery of patient care, effectively increases efficiency in the Emergency Department via minimizing the emergency physician's clerical functions while maximizing the physician's clinical role - thus improving patient flow and satisfaction. Provides assistance with all clerical activities inherent to physicians practicing emergency medicine in the emergency department setting; all activities of the scribe will be under the direct oversight and control of the emergency physician and the emergency physician will review and approve all actions to be taken at key junctures during patient care.
Education: HS Diploma/GED required. Currently enrolled or recent college graduate in the medical field preferred. Career goal in medicine including MD/DO, RN, NP or PA considered beneficial.
Experience: Must be proficient in medical terminology, grammar and punctuation in order to enter patient information and transcribe dictated medical reports into computer. Excellent English language skills, Bilingual capabilities beneficial. Must be able to maintain positive and professional demeanor under stressful conditions. Ability to work various shifts in a 24/7 hospital including nights, weekends and holidays.
